You should really see the movie, Lars and the Real Girl. I thought it would be a comedy and I had gone hoping it wouldn't be as sketchy as it had the potential to be. It's about a guy who falls in love with a sex doll and treats her like she's his girlfriend (see, sketchy). Turns out it's not sketchy at all - you can almost forget her intended purpose because the film almost ignores it.
I see this film as an endearing story about a family and community of people who love Lars and give, what I think was the best gift, full acceptance (I formed this opinion even before the scene with his sister-in-law where she forces him to believe these same things - which I think may be my least favorite scene, by the way). I came away from the movie reflecting about how accepting I am of others' differences. Of course there are the obvious differences that I have decided my feelings about, but is my acceptance level dictated by my exposure to the differences? Maybe that doesn't even make sense. If it does or if it doesn't - you should find where this movie is playing and see it.
Also, if you did see this movie and you thought it was all comedy, you should see it again. There were so many scenes that I felt were serious, yet many in the theater were laughing. It's one of those films.
In case you were wondering, Ryan Gosling was brilliant.

I loved this movie. There were moments when the movie was laugh out loud funny, but it was very touching just the same.
ohhh this sounds so good. i feel like i have seen the trailer for it before. but i just watched the trailer and i wonder who i could get to see it with me..
I thought I didn't like him either... I think its his last name. Geese....
