Jamaica, mon!

A couple of weeks ago, I had another business trip--this time to Jamaica. While my colleagues and I spent most of our time working hard, we did take part of a day to get out of Kingston and see some of the beautiful sights on the island. Here are some pictures from that day...

On the way to Ocho Rios, in the Gorge--looks like someone tried to take an unfortunate shortcut to avoid the traffic.

After about an hour on very slow, curvy roads, we decided we needed a snack...sugar cane and fresh citrus anyone?

After stopping briefly at the Jerk Spice factory in the mountains, we arrived at our first destination, Dunns River Falls. This is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Jamaica. Four out of the six of us decided it would be fun to climb the falls so we (literally) hooked on to a group with a guide. Notice the fancy shoes we rented--they help with traction on the slippery rocks.

The final climb of the falls. The entire journey took about an hour.

Celebrating afterward with the group at a jerk place. Delicious!

The group (minus me) at the shopping mall where the cruise ships dock. We decided ice cream would be the best way to end the day before the curvy drive back to Kingston.

Then of course, back to work! (This is Ann and Kelly that I worked with from the Francis J. Curry National Tuberculosis Center)

Even the signs are written in dialect in Jamaica!

All in all, it was a good trip.

The waterfall looks really beautiful. That car in the river is a little crazy...it makes you wonder which came first, the car or the river?
